Venice Avenue is the main east-west boulevard in Venice Florida (map). It was laid out and planned to be the heart of Venice's downtown commercial district, and it still serves that function today. Not far south of the northern drawbridge over the Intracoastal Waterway, the avenue is divided into East and West portions by US 41 Business (the western branch of the Tamiami Trail). West Venice Avenue proceeds through the heart of historic Venice, past Venice City Hall and all the way to Venice Beach on the Gulf of Mexico. East Venice Avenue crosses the middle drawbridge over the Intracoastal Waterway, then it crosses US 41 By-pass (the other portion of the Tamiami Trail) and proceeds eastward to Interstate 75.
